Navratri, which translates as "nine nights," honors the Devi, the great Goddess and divine Mother. It begins on the first new moon in early autumn, usually late September or early October. On each of the nine nights people observing Navratri celebrate the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.
