The Netflix series "Ozark" explores the world of money laundering. If you are already a fan, you already know that people who bring in lot's of money from illegal activities like drugs or commercial sex need to "clean" or "launder" it so that it looks like it came from a legitimate source. According to research done by the anti-trafficking organization Polaris, the illicit massage parlor business brings in $2.5 million annually. This means that human traffickers need to "clean up" their revenue.
While intended as entertainment, "Ozark" is also educational. It educates its audience about how money laundering works as well as how "following the money" and focusing on business operations can be more effective than raids.
