History

The purpose of the Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (IDVSA) is reflected in its mission: to advance knowledge about interpersonal violence. IDVSA accomplishes this through research, education and service in multi-disciplinary, strategic partnerships with researchers, educators, practitioners, policy makers and other members of our community.

It is the vision of IDVSA that our efforts enhance the quality and relevance of research findings, their application in service provision and ultimately, their benefit to survivors of interpersonal violence and those who assist them.

IDVSA is unique among research institutes in that it is a partnership with the practice community. Practitioners are engaged throughout the process–from defining the research agenda to the transfer of the learned knowledge to the field.

IDVSA is also the only research institute in the nation that approaches this work from a multi-disciplinary focus. Researchers from the School of Social Work, School of Law, School of Nursing and Business Research Bureau are actively engaged in our state-of-the-art research, educational efforts such as curriculum development and training and service in the community.
